Create botanical art with artist Heidi Carlsen-Rogers. She will present an “Art in the Garden” activity using sheets of pastel-colored cardstock as a background and instruct visitors on creating glimmer garden panels using flower line drawings or designing them and artistically arranging bouquets to make beautiful art pieces. This event is in the William H. Kennedy Gallery at the Arts and Science Center, where Carlsen-Rogers’ exhibit Glimmer is on display.
Second Saturday Family FunDay offers monthly hands-on arts and science activities in which visitors create art, complete science projects, or perform dance, music, or theater. Activities complement current exhibitions. Activities are free and led by visiting artists, local art educators, and ARTx3 staff. This event is sponsored by the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation, an affiliate office of the Arkansas Community Foundation.
Combining floral photography, tapestry, thread and traditional handwork techniques, Heidi Carlsen-Rogers makes large-scale textile gardens.
Using human-sized flowers as a point-of-connection, her work explores themes around the mending, healing and repair of both people and planet, our well-being as a culture, interconnectedness, inclusiveness — and empathy building toward one another, the natural environment and our shared home, the earth.
Heidi’s tapestry piece Gather was selected for the 2024 Delta Triennial at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts in Little Rock. Her work was selected for inclusion in the 2019-2024 National Museum of Women in the Arts (Arkansas Committee) juried artists registry. Her work can be found in private and corporate collections and select public installations throughout the US and abroad.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University and worked professionally in the visual display industry prior to becoming a full-time artist.
Heidi lives and maintains a studio in Northwest Arkansas — surrounded by the verdant Ozark landscape where her tapestry flowers are found.
