Custodian

The ARTx3 Campus is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across our three-facility campus. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, values teamwork, and understands the importance of creating a positive experience for our visitors, patrons, and staff. This role is essential to ensuring that ARTx3’s buildings and public spaces reflect the same level of care and professionalism found in our exhibitions, performances, and programs.

This position includes routine cleaning duties, event support, and collaboration with various departments to ensure that our spaces remain functional, safe, and visitor-ready at all times.

HOURS: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some evening and weekend hours required during special events or facility rentals.

The ARTx3 Campus is the convergence of art, creativity, and community in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The campus features three facilities: The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas (ASC), The ARTSpace on Main, and ART WORKS on Main. All three facilities present programming in the visual arts, performing arts, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) education through exhibitions, performances, classes, and local partnerships.

Founded in 1968, ASC is accredited with the American Alliance of Museums and features a permanent art collection focusing on art by African American artists, Arkansas artists, and art of the Delta; three exhibition galleries; an interactive youth activity space; and the 232-seat Catherine M. Bellamy Theater. The modern and multipurpose ARTSpace and ART WORKS facilities host live music, local and regional art, diverse multidisciplinary workshops, and small productions. The ARTx3 Campus aims to empower our community through the arts, support the revitalization of Downtown Pine Bluff, bolster the creative economy, and bring positive attention to our city.

Pay Range: $25,000–$30,000, commensurate with experience

Job Description

Daily Responsibilities:
  • Perform general cleaning duties in all public areas, offices, restrooms, galleries, and classrooms across the three ARTx3 facilities.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins and transport waste to appropriate disposal areas.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, restock supplies, and monitor for maintenance needs.
  • Ensure all entryways, lobbies, and common areas remain clean and organized throughout the day.
Event Support:
  • Set up and break down tables, chairs, and other equipment for events, rentals, performances, and programs.
  • Ensure spaces are clean and guest-ready before and after events.
  • Assist with moving furniture, art pedestals, equipment, and other materials as needed.
Maintenance Coordination:
  • Report maintenance and safety concerns promptly to the Facilities Coordinator or Assistant Director.
  • Replenish janitorial supplies and notify supervisors when inventory needs to be restocked.
  • Assist in basic upkeep of outdoor walkways, steps, and trash collection points.
Safety & Security:
  • Ensure cleaning and chemical supplies are stored properly and used according to safety guidelines.
  • Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures when responding to spills or hazards.
  • Support staff in maintaining a safe and orderly environment for all visitors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in custodial or facilities support roles strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Familiarity with cleaning procedures and safe handling of cleaning supplies.
  • Dependable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Strong work ethic and a willingness to take initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule during special events or facility needs.
