Gallery Assistant / Facilities Coordinator

The ARTx3 Campus is seeking a versatile and dependable Gallery Assistant / Facilities Coordinator to support both the presentation of visual arts and the overall maintenance and functionality of our three-building campus. This unique full-time role combines creative support in our gallery spaces with logistical and operational oversight across our facilities.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, enjoys working with both people and physical spaces, and takes pride in keeping public areas inviting and exhibition-ready. This position is vital in ensuring that our community spaces function smoothly and that our gallery environments reflect the professional and artistic standards of ARTx3.

HOURS: Tuesday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some evening and weekend hours required during exhibitions, programs, or special events.

The ARTx3 Campus is the convergence of art, creativity, and community in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The campus features three facilities: The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas (ASC), The ARTSpace on Main, and ART WORKS on Main. All three facilities present programming in the visual arts, performing arts, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) education through exhibitions, performances, classes, and local partnerships.

Founded in 1968, ASC is accredited with the American Alliance of Museums and features a permanent art collection focusing on art by African American artists, Arkansas artists, and art of the Delta; three exhibition galleries; an interactive youth activity space; and the 232-seat Catherine M. Bellamy Theater. The modern and multipurpose ARTSpace and ART WORKS facilities host live music, local and regional art, diverse multidisciplinary workshops, and small productions. The ARTx3 Campus aims to empower our community through the arts, support the revitalization of Downtown Pine Bluff, bolster the creative economy, and bring positive attention to our city.

Job Description

Gallery Support Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Curator with exhibition installation and deinstallation, including handling and placement of artwork and signage.
  • Monitor gallery conditions daily to ensure a clean, safe, and professional presentation of exhibitions.
  • Help label, inventory, and catalog artworks using internal tracking systems.
  • Greet visitors in gallery spaces and provide helpful, friendly information about current exhibitions.
  • Support special gallery events, including receptions and educational activities.
  • Assist with the organization and upkeep of gallery tools, display materials, and lighting equipment.
Facilities Coordination Responsibilities:
  • Oversee room setup and breakdown for classes, meetings, rentals, and events.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in classrooms, meeting spaces, and common areas, working closely with the Custodian.
  • Respond to basic maintenance needs and report facility issues to the Assistant Director or Facilities Manager.
  • Restock supplies in classrooms and facility-use spaces as needed.
  • Maintain storage areas and assist in managing inventory of event and program supplies.
  • Serve as an on-site liaison during programs and events to ensure facility readiness and guest satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in art, museum studies, or a related field preferred; bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a gallery, museum, educational, or customer service environment is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment, tools, and artwork (up to 50 lbs).
  • Basic knowledge of tools, lighting, and facility maintenance preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask between creative and operational tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a friendly, helpful demeanor.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with a high degree of reliability.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic environment with shifting priorities and event needs.
