Join acclaimed artist Charly Palmer for an engaging discussion on his work, the legacy of The Brownies' Book, and the inspiration behind The New Brownies' Book: A Love Letter to Black Families.
Admission is free, and no registration is required. Books will be available for purchase. The event is part of Ignite Literacy, a program that promotes literacy throughout Jefferson County.
Palmer’s appearance is in conjunction with the current ARTx3 exhibition The New Brownies' Book: The Exhibition | A Love Letter to Black Families. The exhibition is based on The New Brownies’ Book: A Love Letter to Black Families, which Palmer co-wrote with historical and cultural sociologist Dr. Karida L. Brown. Published by Chronicle Books in 2023, the book won the 2024 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work – Non-Fiction.
Whether you’re a professional artist, an emerging creative, part of a school art club, or simply someone who loves art and culture, we invite you to join us for a special evening.
This is an incredible opportunity for local artists, young creatives, art educators, and school art clubs to hear directly from an accomplished working artist, ask questions, and leave inspired. Bring your students. Bring your sketchbook. Bring your questions. Bring your curiosity.
The exhibition is on view now through Nov. 21 at The ARTSpace on Main by appointment.
