The ARTx3 Campus will host the opening reception of the exhibition An Anchor and A Source by Elly Bates. The event is free, and refreshments will be available.
An Anchor and a Source explores the moon’s quiet but powerful influence on the Earth and on us. Through arcs, circles, flowing lines, layered color, and textured surfaces, the exhibition reflects the unseen forces that shape tides, movement, memory, and emotion. The moon appears both as subject and metaphor—an anchor, a source, and a reminder that connection often exists beyond what we can see.
Elly Bates is a Little Rock-based visual artist specializing in mixed-media painting and portraiture. Her work explores the natural world and the relationships within its systems through layered compositions that combine acrylic paint, drawing materials, and collage. Her process-driven approach invites reflection on interconnectedness, drawing attention to both subtle and complex patterns found in nature. Bates received an Honors Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout Northwest and central Arkansas.
